Time Off for Public Duties Order 2018
The Time Off for Public Duties Order 2018 came into force on 1st October 2018
The Order amends the Employment Rights Act 1996, s.50 so as to grant unpaid time off work to four groups of volunteers in the criminal justice system, who monitor conditions of those in custody.
The four groups of volunteers are:
- Independent prison monitors.
- Lay observers – volunteers who monitor conditions for prisoners under escort and in court custody.
- Visiting Committees (most commonly referred to as Independent Monitoring Boards) – volunteers who monitor the immigration detention estate.
- Visiting Committees short-term holding facilities.
