The closure of the Childcare Voucher Scheme has been deferred until October 2018
The Government has confirmed that the closure of the employer-supported childcare schemes will be deferred until 4 October 2018.
The closure date was announced on 29 March 2018 as part of The Income Tax (Limited Exemptions for Qualifying Childcare Vouchers and other Childcare) (Relevant Day) Regulations 2018. The regulations specify that as of 4 October 2018, childcare vouchers and directly contracted childcare that is part of an employer-supported childcare arrangement, will close to new applicants.
After the closure date, parents who are already using childcare vouchers can continue to do so for as long as they remain with their current employer, the employer continues to run the scheme, and the employee does not take a break from receiving vouchers for a year or more.
Employees who are not eligible are entitled to participate in the replacement tax-free childcare voucher scheme that does not involve any form of salary sacrifice. The new scheme was launched on 21 April 2017.
