Changes to basic DBS check application procedure in England and Wales
From January 2018, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) are making changes to the way in which individuals in England and Wales can apply for a basic criminal records check.
From 18 January 2018, all applicants in England and Wales should apply directly to the DBS for a basic disclosure certificate. Disclosure Scotland will no longer be dealing with requests from applicants from 17 January 2018. The system for standard and enhanced checks, which show unspent convictions, remains the same.
If you are applying to DBS you will be able to use the new online application form for a basic disclosure certificate that will be available on www.gov.uk . Alternatively, employers can use the services of a Responsible Organisation to apply for basic checks on its behalf. A list of Responsible Organisations can be found at Disclosure and Barring Service: Responsible Organisations.
